Karol Tucker earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She taught elementary and high school art for a few years before raising a family and managing the family business. It wasn’t till she retired in 1994 that Karol returned to art beginning with taking a watercolor class at the Durham Arts Council. Her main passion is portrait and figurative work but she also enjoys Plein Air landscape painting. At this time pastels and oils are her mediums of choice along with charcoal drawing. She was the winner of the 2001-2002 Durham Arts Council's Emerging Artist Grant and is the recipient of many local and national awards, including First and Third place in oils and the Clara Ely Founders Award in the 2013 Brownsville Museum 42nd International Art Show. Professional organizations include The Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, Women Painters of the Southeast, and the Durham Art Guild .
