I am a Hillsborough, NC based printmaker and surface pattern designer specializing in place-based design. Through my printmaking company, New South Pattern House, I sell hand pulled block prints, as well as handmade stationery, eco gift-wrap, and bookmarks. I use archival, sustainably manufactured papers, and NC made inks. NSPH is strongly focused on nature, local culture and the environment. For example, I make prints of popular skylines, such as Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Durham - but also, meticulously detailed naturalist prints of southeastern flora and fauna such as maypops, native ferns, hellbender salamanders, and great blue herons. In addition to my printmaking work, I also design wallpaper and fabric. My wallpaper designs can be seen in hotels, corporate offices, libraries, and homes across our region.
I carve in several substrates to make my block prints, including linoleum and recycled rubber printmaking blocks, and I use a wooden hand press to pull each print. I often employ the “puzzle piece” printmaking technique for my multi-color pieces, or combine this with more traditional registration techniques. For each limited edition block I carve, I sell fewer than 100 imprints, ensuring that each piece is special. Within those 99 prints, I may do several editions-- usually a full color edition, a black and white edition, and some experimental artist proofs. My packaging is all compostable and/or recyclable, and the backing board and matboard I use for my shows is all acid free. I take great care in the quality of my work, and have built up a reputation for outstanding customer service.
