Handmade lampworked glass beads, buttons, jewelry and other objects

My glassworking studio sits at the edge of a wood of redbud, oak, beech, pine and dogwood trees in rural Orange County. It's an inspiring place to create - I'm surrounded by the colors and patterns of nature. The interplay of light, color, and pattern inspires my flameworked glass beads and jewelry. Flameworking (also known as lampworking) begins with the raw materials of glass rods and the heat of a propane/oxygen fueled torch. After gradually introducing the cold glass to the hot flame, the molten glass is melted and wound around a thin steel mandrel. The art of making glass beads is in the proper balance of heat and cool, gravity and movement. Experimenting with surprising color combinations, I strive to create unusual and unique designs with the glass. My beads are sometimes geometric and patterned, sometimes fluid and organic, but always playful in color and design. The finished beads guide the creation of my jewelry.
